Lafayette County Property Appraiser

Responsibilities of the Lafayette County Florida Property Appraiser:

The main job of the Lafayette Appraiser is to accurately provide market values for various properties with the help of Computer Assisted Mass Appraisals (CAMA) systems. The Florida State statutes keep a check on the methods and practices of the Lafayette County Property Appraiser.

The Lafayette Appraiser checks all records of maps and property ownerships and also tax exemptions which are renewed every year. The Lafayette County Property Appraiser also provides current information when required by various governing agencies such as the schools, institutions etc.

Tax Exemptions

The State of Florida has made available certain exemptions for owners of real property. The guidelines to these are available with the Lafayette County Property Appraiser’s office. All applications must be filed in person at the Lafayette Appraiser’s office earliest January 1st and latest by March 1st.

If a person is facing total disability then the Lafayette Appraiser’s office will make the necessary arrangements. One can also find an alternate filing program at the Lafayette County Property Appraiser’s office which would involve a late fee, but this is only for those who are facing adverse circumstances.

Most of the exemptions after being sanctioned are renewed automatically by the Lafayette Appraiser.

Some of the common exemptions with eligibility are listed below:

Homestead Exemption:

As per the real property owner is eligible for a Homestead Exemption ($50,000 deduction) provided converts his/her property into a permanent residence of his own.

The Lafayette County Property Appraiser’s office require the following for an application:

  • Be the legal owner holding the title deed of the property as of January 1st.
  • Built up area on that property as per January 1st as this would be a permanent residence.
  • Social security number must be furnished.
  • Not more than one Homestead Exemption will be allowed to a person.

As per the Lafayette County Property Appraiser, those who can avail of this exemption are military people, totally disabled persons, widows, widowers, religious charitable institutions, and physically challenged people.
